Durán
Roberto Durán is, by all accounts, very kind hearted outside the squared circle. No doubt he was a beast inside it. Ferocious in demeanour and attack, he was a master of subtle defensive moves and in-fighting. One of the all-time great lightweights, he moved up the classes to take on the likes of the other three “Kings” Thomas Hearns, Ray Leonard and Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
This painting is from a photo of Durán’s 1980 victory over Leonard in Montréal. I sent the original on a rolled canvas to the amazing coach Fran Sands in the UK https://www.myboxingcoach.com/. The original will soon be stretched over a frame to be hung in the Sefton Amateur Boxing Club.
Spray enamel and acrylic on canvas, approx. 120 × 200 cm, 2024
Available as a signed and numbered giclee print, 30 * 42 cm (A3)
